If you wear glasses like me, it’s easy to hide behind our frames, forgo eye make-up, and focus on accentuating other parts of our face. But just because you’ve got specs on doesn’t mean you have to neglect the makeup.
Step up your eye makeup game with these hacks.
Define and groom your brows
First things first: you need to make sure that your eyebrows, like your life goals and aspirations, are clearly defined. Even if your glasses hide your eyebrows, grooming them well will frame your face properly. Tweeze, wax, or thread them regularly to keep stray hairs at bay. If you need to, get your eyebrow pencil to give them a boost.
Brighten under your eyes
Our glasses tend to draw attention to under-eye circles and discoloration. That’s because they cast a shadow under our eyes, accentuating the puffiness and other imperfections. Try applying concealer under your eyes, or use a color corrector to even out the tone.
Keep your eyelids light
LorealParis.com recommends using a lighter and more neutral-colored eyeshadow on your eyelids. Darker colors tend to magnify the darker undertones around our eyes, making them look tired and swollen. Shimmer eyeshadow won’t look heavy on your eyes. Apply it all over your eyelid and blend it into the crease of your eye, so that it won’t look behind your glasses.
Skip the smokey eyes for days when you’re wearing contact lenses, to minimize the chances of looking like you have a black eye.
Use white or beige-colored eyeliner on your water line to make your eyes look bigger. This trick works if you’re nearsighted, and your frames make your eyes look smaller.
Use eyeliner to complement your frames
Use thicker eyeliner for thick frames, and thinner eyeliner for thin frames. Mixing the two can under or over-exaggerate your eyes. Practice tightlining; make sure that any spaces between your lashes and liner are filled in because any gaps will be enhanced once you wear your glasses.
Work on your eyelashes
If you only curl your eyelashes on special occasions, now’s the time to do them more regularly. Curling your lashes will make your eyes look bigger and brighter. Be careful not to lengthen your eyelashes, so they don’t start to touch your lenses.
Applying a few coats of mascara will thicken them and make your eyes pop. Volumizing mascara is best for eyeglass wearers. Don’t forget to separate your eyelashes while they’re wet, as glasses magnify any clumps. Choose a creamy formula if you’re concerned about getting mascara flecks on your lenses.
Wearing glasses doesn’t mean we have to give up on eye makeup. It’s just a matter of tweaking your daily routine and experimenting with what works best for you.
