We all strive to be happy and to live a positive life. But in order to achieve this, we have to say goodbye to certain things or habits that deter us from being positive. Here are some of them:
1. Living in the past
We all have done things in the past that we regret. But you have to forgive yourself and move on. Let go of your burdens and do not dwell on them. Instead, focus on the lessons that you’ve learned from your experiences.
2. Overthinking
Chill! Stop worrying about things that haven’t happened yet. As they say, cross the bridge when you get there. Just enjoy every moment instead of dwelling on what ifs.
3. Having a negative perspective
Stop emphasizing the bad things that you see in a person or situation, as they will only stress you out. Remember that nothing is perfect. There is a good and bad side to everything–it just depends on which side you’re looking at.
4. Bearing grudges
Be open to forgiveness. It doesn’t have to happen overnight, but don’t let yourself be overcome with bitterness, either. We’ve all encountered bad experiences with other people at one point or another, but we have to admit, those experiences helped us grow.
5. Taking failure as an entirely bad thing
Rarely do we succeed on our first try. But when you do fail, don’t stop there. Always see failure as an opportunity to grow, to learn more, and to improve yourself. Don’t think you’re incapable or inadequate. You just need to prepare more for when you finally succeed.
6. Not appreciating what you have
Don’t bother yourself with what other people have or what you don’t have. Instead, appreciate the things that you do have. Be thankful for your family and friends–even if you don’t always get along–because they will always have your back. Be thankful for your job–even if it stresses you out–because not everyone is as blessed as you. You’d be surprised how life-changing this paradigm shift is.
7. Hanging out with negative people
Sometimes you simply have to cut out some negative people or so called “friends” from your life. If they really are your friends, they would support you and strive to make you see the better side of every situation because they want you to have a good outlook in life. They definitely won’t try to bring you down. Anyone who doesn’t do this isn’t worth being in your life or social circle.
8. Not smiling enough
It is true than when you smile the world does get brighter. In order to be positive you have to think, act, and look positive–and you can start by smiling.
9. Overworking
Let’s face it: if we’re tired and burnt out, it’s hard to be positive. You have got to cut this out of your life. Stop pushing yourself over your limit, and give yourself ample alone time every day.
10. Complaining
There’s nothing wrong with letting out steam every now and then, but ranting every single day could be problematic. Complaining all the time makes you dwell only on the bad things, which clouds your judgment. This a common issue in the office, and it is one that is often misconstrued. If you’re having problems at work, talk to people who will help you understand the situation objectively. If things do get out of hand, approach the proper channels and follow proper procedure, instead of taking the passive route and complaining to your colleagues.
