Some women might have different reasons for losing weight. There are those who want to be healthier, and there are those who need to maintain a certain weight for work. But while there are many ways to shed pounds, there are certain things you should never do. Here are four unhealthy weight loss practices you should never ever do:
1. Starve yourself
You may think you’re on your way to major weight loss if you starve yourself, but the pounds that you shed when you severely slash calories includes precious muscle and even leads to a higher percentage of body fat. This could lead to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.
2. Use supplements as alternatives to food.
Don’t ever think that you could use food or vitamin supplements as food replacements. Supplements are made to provide our bodies with additional nutrients that we might lack, and they’re not meant to replace actual food. Be wary of supplements that advertise otherwise.
3. Purging
All forms of purging, as in making yourself vomit, chewing food and spitting it out, as well as abusing laxatives, are dangerous. Extremely acidic vomit can cause erosion in the esophagus and mouth, which increases the risk for certain cancers.
4. Extreme exercising
Extreme exercise may look inspiring on TV. But in the real world, it could cause grave problems such as severe wear and tear, injury, and dehydration, among other things. Consult your doctor first if you want to try out extreme exercises, and properly prep your body before doing so.
Essentially, the best weight loss practice you can commit to is one approved by a doctor you trust. Choose a diet that works for your body type and your lifestyle.
