5 Tips to Keep Your Eyes Healthy

Did you know that our eyes are the most active and strongest muscles in our entire body? It’s not the one in your legs or your stomach, but the ones that you use to help you see the pavement where you’re walking, the movie you’re watching and the guy at the cafe you’re checking out.  Without good eyesight, you would have a hard time doing your day to day routine. This is the main reason why Essilor Philippines, one of the world’s leading providers of eyeglass lenses, stressed the importance of taking care of our eyes during a recent event.

1. Visit your ophthalmologist at least once a year.

Just as you should visit your dentist twice a year for cleaning and a checkup, it is also important for you to visit your eye doctor. Whether or not you have any eye problems, you should still get an eye checkup. Have your eyes checked if there are any preventive and corrective measures that need to be done to keep your eyes healthy and remain having good vision.

2. Protect your eyes.

Use glasses with the correct type of lenses whether you are at home or out in the sun; Essilor is great at providing you with the right lenses for the right occasions. You may be surprised to know that even when at home, your eyes can still be affected by harmful UV rays coming from your TV sets and laptops. Wearing glasses won’t just correct what may be wrong with your vision, but it’ll also prevent something from happening to your eyes. Practice eye safety anytime and anywhere by wearing the right glasses prescribed for you.

3.  Rest every so often.

Don’t stay glued to your gadgets 24/7. Staring at the computer or your tablets for long periods of time can cause major eye strain which can then lead to blurry vision and painful headaches. To help avoid straining your eyes, rest them every 20 minutes. Focus on cool colors and close them from time to time before going back to your laptop or other gaming gadget.

4. Get healthy.

Your diet also affects your eyesight and not just your body. Load up on fruits and veggies that contain beta-carotene, lutein and Vitamin A. Lutein is an antioxidant that helps in preventing blindness in adults. Samples of lutein-rich foods include malunggay (moringa), spinach and carrots. Eating right and exercising helps in maintaining appropriate blood flow which decreases the stress from your eyes. When you are conscious about taking care of your overall wellness, you ultimately take care of your eyes, too.

5. Use only the right lenses.

Wearing other peoples glasses is a big no-no since it will affect your eyesight. Each eyeglass is customized for an individual, so wearing them, when you don’t need to will give you eye strain and potentially damage your vision more than it should.
