Being a blogger is no easy task, especially if you’re one of the most popular ones in the Philippines. With countless fans here and there, blast-tweeting your Twitter feed and bombarding your comments section on your own virtual space in the internet; things can get stressful, not to mention overwhelming, at times. Through all of these things do, there is one blogger who just keeps going forward, all because of her love and passion for what she does. Her name is Laureen Uy and she is having the time of her life as her star shines as brightly as can be.
To most, Laureen Uy is known as a fashion blogger/icon. As siblings to two other famous personalities in the fashion industry (Liz and Vince), Laureen is not new to the spotlight. In fact, fashion started flowing into her veins at an early age. I can actually still remember my first glimpse of her as a fresh-faced intern for a teen glossy. Laureen says that she was just a teenage girl wanting to enter this trade before. Fast-forward to present, however, and armed with a lot of patience and determination, she has risen into The Laureen Uy that Modern Filipinas envy, take inspiration from, and look up to.
Her climb was no easy feat, though. Still, she quips, “I enjoyed every single bit of my journey.” After all, because of it all, she learned that if you really love what you’re doing, it doesn’t feel like work at all. She’s proud to say that she’s really hardworking, and puts her everything into her craft, which explains how she has reached her current status. Laureen constantly pushes herself to attain her goals and she is mindful of her every step. Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without the help of her strong support system, mainly composed of her family.
Despite being the trendsetter that she is, though, she has gone through some awkward phases, too – just like any of us. When asked about what she’d like to tell her younger self, she shares, “Don’t be insecure about your flaws and embrace them, so you’ll be more comfortable with yourself.”
With all of the glitz and glamour come the inevitable haters, too. However, if there’s one valuable thing Laureen has learned about dealing with them, it’s that you can’t please everyone. Instead of sulking and feeling bad about the negative things, she simply brushes them off and turns them into positive ones.
