5 Reasons It’s Okay to Be Single in Your 20s

In a world full of romantic movies, love songs, date places, lovey-dovey pictures of friends and their partners and couples holding hands in the streets, it may really be difficult for a single girl not to overthink her relationship status. Nowadays, it’s impossible to go somewhere, even in the virtual world, without seeing all these. It seems like the universe conspires to remind you that yes, you are single. What’s worse is, most people appear to feel sorry for you that you don’t have that someone in your life, as if that’s the most important thing in this world. Thus, you wish that you, too, have a hand to hold or someone to be with as you do all those cute activities you have in mind. You end up troubled at night convincing yourself that you are gonna end up sad, bitter, and alone.

But we have good news for you, honey: You’re just in your 20s and you’re not gonna end up alone just because you’re single right now. Stop listening to the things who feed you with thoughts that you’re missing something because you don’t have someone. Your relationship status doesn’t define your happiness. Trust me, you can be single and happy!

If Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” isn’t enough to convince you that being single is perfectly fine, here are five reasons why being single in your 20s is okay, if not the best for a 20-something like you!

1. You have more money and time for yourself.

Instead of paying dinner for two, you can eat all those munchies alone. You don’t have to stress into finding and buying the perfect gift for anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, or whatnot because you can just spend the money on that gorgeous pumps you’ve been eyeing for like two weeks now. You don’t need to allot me-time from your busy schedules marked with dates, dates and dates because you have all the me-time you want and need. Twice (if not all) the money and time is just for you.

2. You don’t need to ask for permission to do anything.

I’m pretty sure you’ll agree with me when I say the most annoying part when you’re in a relationship is having to ask for permission regarding anything and everything you’ll be doing. But hey, that’s not your problem! You can just book a trip to that remote island or pack your bags and go instantly to the beach anytime you want without having to worry about someone getting mad at you. (Except your boss, so make sure you properly filed your leave!) You can just go to that party without a boyfriend questioning you who you’re with, where you’re going, what time you’re going home and all those wh-questions that will make you wanna scream “Why can’t you just let me go?” Admit it, being the sole person who can decide for you is fun!

3. You have the luxury to explore and experiment.

Aside from not having to ask for permission, you can just go out there and try new things without the fear of destroying your relationship. You can finally do things, try different styles and looks, visit places, date different types of people, or whatever it is that you weren’t able to do when you were in a relationship. Remember that body-hugging dress and short haircut you want to try? You can totally pull it off now because no one will get disappointed at you for doing so. You have the luxury to experiment in everything, even in dating. You can just try and try until you find something that suits you! Go out there and grow!

4. You don’t have to deal with relationship drama.

You may seem to want to be in a relationship again until you see a troubled friend, crying because of a fight with her boyfriend. Isn’t it relaxing to think that you don’t have to go through all these petty fights over petty things? You don’t have to deal with all the hassle, the crying and the issues that go over and over again. You don’t have to stay up at three in the morning bothered at the thought that your relationship is hanging on by a thread. You don’t have to be worried that your partner might be lying or cheating on you. When you’re single, the most painful thing that could happen would probably be the breakup of TV characters you are shipping so hard.

5. You have time to love yourself more.

The most important reason is always the last and that is: being single allows you to love yourself more. You get to appreciate yourself and how strong, independent, and wonderful you are for being able to survive and do anything and everything all by yourself. You get to know yourself more and you begin to be specific on what you’re looking for, what you want and what you deserve. You are able to realize that you don’t need anyone to complete you because you are a whole, happy human being and having someone in the future will just be a plus.

Being single doesn’t mean you have a deficiency. Not having a boyfriend doesn’t make you a half-whole human being. You’re not less of a person just because you don’t have a romantic partner. It just means that you’re single and that’s okay – a happy, beautiful and independent single.
