Twentysomethings are all about the trends these days and a particular app continue to dominate the generation – the infamous Tinder.

If you didn’t know by now, this app originally served as a dating service, but branched out to offer more “services”, such as hook-ups. It is notorious for its mixed reviews with men glorifying the freedom it offered and ladies bawling in disbelief. This app did not only make it easier to casually hook up with someone, it also left hundreds of broken hearts in the process.

Vanity Fair recently wrote an in-depth article called Tinder and the Dawn of “Dating Apocalypse” validating women’s fear that guys are just swiping right to hook up. So, is this really the end of dating? Should we settle for the guys swiping right? Or should we hold on to our faith believing we’ll meet him the old fashioned way?

Should you swipe right…?

Here’s the thing, most people of this generation is on Tinder, whether they like to admit it or not. It’s probably the easiest way to meet someone without the awkward small talk and “does he or she like me?” scenarios. The problem is, the majority of people on Tinder are looking for hook-ups. I guess it’s a matter of what your current emotional status is.

If you have trust issues or are too busy to hold a connection, then this is perfect for you. But, there are also some people who are just too shy to ask someone out or cannot find any of their preferences offline. I’m not saying they should avoid using the app since I personally found my beau there. Rare gems are hard to find on Tinder, but when you do, it will be worth it.

…Or should you wait it out?

On the other hand, you can still rely on the old-fashioned way of going out and hopefully meeting someone. This might sound nerve-racking for you have to build up the courage to make that first move, but this old school method worked wonders before our generation.

Believing that we are in a dating apocalypse is absurd because we still have several options before us. It will be up to you to determine how you can deal with it and how you want your love life to begin. This concept is so new to us that it is easy for us to just shrug off the idea.

Where and how you met your significant other isn’t important. Your first meet up doesn’t always turn out the way you imagined when you were young. The hook up culture has admittedly made it difficult and frustrating to find someone you can genuinely trust, but it’s all a part of dating anyway.

You’ll learn to evolve and know how to differentiate the one-night-stand guys from the happily-ever-after man of your dreams.
