Another year, another chance to become the better version of ourselves. We always try to come up with resolutions each year, but sometimes, those are just not enough to keep us motivated. We think that reaching a certain weight, having a certain number of followers, or earning a certain amount each month would make us happy, but in reality, they just add up to the pressure that we put on ourselves.
What we don’t realize is that sometimes, we really don’t see our goals loud and clear because we are too blinded to what the world has been dictating us. I mean, sure, it’s nice to rock those abs, and it’s nice to have more savings for the bank account, but you actually have to dig deeper to actually find enough motivation to push yourself to finish those goals. And to actually find those motivations, all you have to do is take a detox: get away from all the things that brings toxic to your life. We’ve listed down some great ways to detoxify and re-energize before you go head to head with your goals this 2016.
1. Go on a social media break.
Social media will always be a great influence to us. Find some time for yourself and let go of Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for a while, and reconnect with the things that really matters. Use that time to go out and have an offline with friends or just hang out at the spa and pamper yourself.
2. Meditate.
Countless number of people have attributed their successes to meditation because it helps them to have more focus on the things that they need to do. Meditation can be as simple as a five-minute breathing exercise in the morning, or it can be as intense as something that would take you almost an hour to finish. Let go of your inhibitions and focus on the now, and I bet you, you’ll feel at peace in no time.
3. Create a routine.
Having a routine in the morning can help you be more grounded on your resolutions. If you’re used to doing what you’ve decided to do (and made a habit out of it), then there is a higher chance that you will be in it for a long time. Also, having a routine is like having to do something automatically, making it easier for you to support your meditation and building a more focused environment.
4. Commit to a healthier lifestyle.
Of course, detoxifying can never be complete without tapping into our physical body. Eating healthy, sweating out calories, and drinking more water in a day would surely be helpful for you to achieve that morning glow and healthy body. Motivation won’t really come by looking at the weighing scale everyday (put that away!) but you’ll feel more motivated when you actually feel better with your body. Imagine being able to go on that staircase without panting when you reach the top, or imagine being able to reach the age of 60 without having any maintenance: wouldn’t that be nice?
5. Cut off junk.
Whether it be food or personal relationships, if it doesn’t do you any good, you should definitely cut them off from your life. Sure, a really crispy bag of chips seems like a good idea after a long day at work, but sometimes you’d have to think and just fight the urges for the long term haul. Same goes for all the negative people in your life. Cut off the junk in your life and embrace a healthier lifestyle.
All in all, detoxifying isn’t just about fancy juice or eating healthy. It’s about being healthy and knowing the things that would truly make us feel better. To a brighter and more awesome 2016. Cheers!
