A 20-year old girl who has a big heart for…
Good mornings are good start for good days. Early risers are happier, healthier and more productive.
But let’s face it, most of the time, the sun’s out and you’re still lying in bed denying the fact that it’s time to start the day. Well, not everyone has that sunny disposition to actually get up when their alarms start beeping. Some of us need a little more push to finally drag themselves out of bed and a lot more snooze to actually get started.
No worries, sleepyhead! Here are five secrets that will help you turn from night owl to early bird in no time!
1. Skip the snooze.
The snooze is not your friend. I hate to break it to you but those few minutes you get from pressing the snooze do more harm than good. It disrupts your sleep cycle which makes you feel groggier, tired and less rested. It also affects your mood for the whole morning. If you’re really having a hard time waking up, put the alarm clock in a place where you would have to get up to turn it off.
2. Stretch and sweat.
By stretch, I don’t just mean stretch your arms in bed. Stretch your hamstrings by jogging, walking or just sweat by doing any kind of exercise. Working out in the morning will give you an extra shot of energy and a boost that will help you through the day. By making this a morning routine, you also help your body have a more regulated sleep. Plus, it also makes people happier and in a more positive mood because of all the endorphins released in the body when working out.
3. Make a schedule and stick to it.
Make a workable and realistic schedule, which includes allotted time for social media in bed, sleeping, waking up, exercising, and other morning activities. This will help you manage your time and get more sleep instead of being stuck on Twitter at 2:00 a.m. and waking up late yet still feeling restless. You have to really stick to your schedule to restart your body clock. After a few months with this guide, you may no longer even need an alarm clock!
4. Let the light in!
Brighten up and let your body bask in the sun. A healthy dose of Vitamin D will help you shrug that sleepiness in the morning. The natural light will perk you up and stimulate your body’s chemicals making you feel energized. Instead of covering your windows with dark curtains, it would be better to use an eye mask so that when you take it off in the morning, the sunny, bright light can instantly catch you.
(PS: It also helps you have natural glowing skin!)
5. Eat heavy breakfast.
Eating a heavy breakfast gives you the energy, focus, and mental clarity. It preps you up for the day’s battle. With a stomach full of protein, you can conquer anything! It is also better to savor eating instead of just shoving something down your throat as you rush your way through the car’s door. Plus, you can use breakfast as something to look forward to every morning. I mean, if I know I’ll be having bacon and eggs for breakfast, I’ll definitely wake up with the sun.
There you have it: the five secrets to becoming a morning person. Don’t they just want to make you look forward to another morning?
