I don’t think we fully grasp just how unhealthy eating habits have become in this day and age. The amount of toxins we take in each day will definitely take a toll on our bodies as we get older, though. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to avoid eating processed and fast food nowadays. There are a lot of excuses for this, too: (1) you don’t have time to prepare fresh food, (2) you don’t know how to prepare fresh food, (3) you don’t have the resources for it, or (4) you simply love the taste of unhealthy food.
Even though it’s difficult to go cold turkey from delicious yet unhealthy food, though, you should at least give your body a healthy treat every once in a while – and one of the easiest and yummiest ways to do this would be through juicing.
The Health Benefits
It goes without saying that fruits are packed with vitamins and nutrients that are good for the body. However, they’re not exactly as easy to eat as a bag of Cheetos. The recommended daily serving of fruits for adults is about 2 full cups. So, instead of getting that large cup of cola, try having a fruit shake with your meal for a change. Make sure to ask stores to hold the sugar when you get shakes from one, as well. Personally speaking, I find it much easier to chug a fruit shake than to eat 2 cups of fruit daily. If you’re planning to make your own juices at home, go for a blender instead of the juicer, as well. Juicers often take out the pulp of fruits which hold most of the fibre and goodness.
The Weight Loss and Fitness Benefits
Fruit shakes and juices can also replace unhealthy snacking. Instead of eating chips when you feel hungry, chugging a fruit shake can tide you over until your next meal. Also, when you drink a shake during a meal, it will instantly take up more space in your stomach, so you won’t need to eat as much during the actual meal. When it comes to fitness, getting your daily does of vitamins and minerals will also make you feel less sluggish and give you more energy overall.
The Time Benefits
Think of all the time you can save if you wake up in the morning, get ready for work and drink a fruit shake on the go instead of sitting down and eating a plate of greasy bacon, eggs and toast. All you have to do is pop in a few slices of prepared fruits into a blender with some ice and you’re good to go. You can also pre-prepare the fruits for storage during the weekends or you buy them ready-made, peeled and sliced from your nearby market or grocery store.
Juicing may be difficult at first, but it will do wonders in the long run. A tip for beginners is to use honey to help make the juice taste better. Also, try doing some research online for different fruit and vegetable combinations that you can try out for your shakes, so that you can prepare a list of what to buy for next time. It’s about time you invest in a good blender at home. Happy juicing!
