Some people still find it a bit taboo to be seen logging in an online dating site or checking out their online dating profiles through their smart phones (Hello, Tinder!); but why is it really bad, anyway? Now that we’re living in a world where people go online to read, to shop, and to talk to friends; why not try meeting new people that you could possibly go out with, as well?
There will always be those people who will raise an eyebrow at the mere thought of this idea and call it “desperate” or “anti-social”, but I say: there is nothing wrong with making the most out of the World Wide Web and seeing how it could work out for you! If these statements sound like something you would say, it’s time to open up your mind to the possibilities of online dating.
I find it awkward to date friends or co-workers.
If you are anything like me and simply don’t want to shit in your own backyard, then that’s fine. I personally have this rule of not dating friends because I don’t want to ruin the relationship I already have with them. So, when I like someone, I either date him just stay friends with him – there are no in-betweens (more than friends, less than lovers, anyone?). Of course, there are some women who would prefer to date friends or acquaintances – to each her own – but if that isn’t the case for you, then why not get online?
I am a busy bee. I don’t have time to go out and meet new people.
We are now living in a generation where women are more empowered and don’t really have much time to go out and socialize. If you are one of these women, then logging into an online dating site or an online dating application may be the best way for you to meet new people. Just schedule a coffee date during your lunch break or invite him out on a Friday night out with your friends. Besides, who said online dating sites and applications are solely for romantic dates, anyway? You can make new friends this way, too, in case the plan for romance doesn’t work out.
My friends always set me up on bad dates.
Let’s face it: although they’re our friends, they won’t always know what we like, want or need. Sometimes, blind dates set up by friends don’t always go as planned or as expected. That is why online dating might work for you. You’ll get to choose who you talk to, who you go out with, when you go out with them and where. Then, if you don’t like where your conversation is going, you can always tell the other person straight-up without having to feel guilty or awkward about it.
I think it’s high time women opened themselves up more to different options. After all, we are living in a modern world now. It’s not even about wanting to finally be in a relationship, but merely about taking risks, trying things out and simply living life to the fullest. Just remember to always be careful online and to choose a public place for your first date, if ever. If you already know the rules by heart, then all that is left to say is: “Have fun!” 😉
